Recent Natural Disasters
  • Thunder/Hailstorms in India
    -14 people killed and about 200 injured.
    -Jalaun, the worst affected area where 9 people died during hailstorm.
    -Majority of people died due to house and wall collapse incidents.
    -Two hours continuous hailstorm affected road traffic and halted train services.
    -Extreme weather was due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over eastern UP, India
    -Rs 20,000 compensation was announced by district administration for the families of dead people.
  • Flash flood in state of Perak, Malaysia
    -More than 1100 people evacuated after flooding in state of Perak.
    -The victims were from Kampung Baru Kuala Dipang, Kampung Kuala Dipang, Kampung Melaya, Kampung Batu 20, Kampung Pisang, Kampung Pasir and Kampung Nyior region of Malaysia
    -Heavy rainfall caused flash flood in thees areas.
    -A bridge in Batang Padang reported to be flooded.
    -Flood affected people are taking shelter at SMK Kampar and Dewan Pulau Bergadin.
    -On April 1st, heavy rain and high tide caused flash flood in Klang port of Malaysia

Weak shaking will have felt by the people of San Juan Bautista, Las Lomas, Watsonville, Pajaro, Interlaken, San Jose, Modesto, Fremont, Salinas and Hayward.

  • M 4.5 moderate deep earthquake in Potosi, Bolivia (@ 213 km depth) with epicenter located 54 km SW Atocha. Just a weak shaking will have felt in Tupiza and Uyuni, Bolivia.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Guatemala (@ 102 km depth) with epicenter located 15 km SSE from Cacahoatán. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Cacahoatán, Tapachula and Suchiate.

  • M 4.3 moderate earthquake in Myanmar (@ 73 km depth) with epicenter located 66km SE from Phek, India. Weak shaking will have felt as far as Kohima (Nagaland) and Imphal (Manipur) of India. Most earthquakes in these regions are generated by under thrusting of the India plate beneath the Eurasia plate.

  • M 4.7 moderate earthquake in Maule, Chile (@ 53 km depth) with epicenter located 39 km NNW of Talca. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Talca and weak shaking will have experienced by the people of San javier and Curico.

  • M 4.2 moderate shallow earthquake in Turkey, Iran border region (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 28 km SW Maku. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Khvoy (Iran) and Van (Turkey). Four major tectonic plates (Arabia, Eurasia, India, Africa) and one micro-plate (Antatolia) are responsible for seismicity in this region.

  • Costa Rica/Turrialba recent volcanic activity
    -Activity recorded at Turrialba volcano with production of gas fumes.
    -Green Alert is issued. National park is closed.
    -Following the Red Sismológica Nacional (RSN) and the Observatorio Vulcanologio y Sismologico de Costa Rica (OVISCORI), currently there is no any danger from this volcano.

  • Sicily (Italy)/Mount Etna recent volcanic activity

    Mount Etna again erupted yesterday (Thursday).
    -Red molten lava and grey and white ash was spewed in the air.

  • Wildfire in Alleghany area of Virginia, USA
    -Two wildfire in St. Paul and Back Valley burned 20,000 acres of land.
    -Firefighters from York, Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk and Portsmouth are struggling to control the blaze.
    -A section of Route 850 near the Alleghany-Rockbridge and part of Route 770 in Alleghany County are closed following recent wildfires
