Several electric poles are reported to be fallen down in Paita city. Paita city is located 57 km northwest of the regional capital of Piura. However, the report is unconfirmed.

People in Central Piura rushed out of their homes and shopping centers immediately after the quake.
The quake was felt in Piura, Tumbes and Chiclayo.

Peru's Geophysical institution has updated its earthquake data with magnitude 5.0 (less compared to USGS) with epicenter located 30 Km al E de Sullana.

An earthquake with preliminary magnitude of 5.4 struck Northern Peru today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The quake's epicenter was just 6 km NE from Piura, the agency said. It was 46.3 miles deep.
Piura is a city in northwestern Peru. It is the capital of the Piura Region and the Piura Province.
Weak shaking was felt in different parts of Ecuador too.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
