  1. Last night I was chatting with my girlfriend, Desiree, who lives in San Carlos city, when the first Earthquake hit. All of a sudden she began screaming Oh My God! an Earthquake! Then she ran out from her second storey apartment. I was sitting there looking at her wall, terrified, not knowing what had just happened to her! It was like something from a movie happening before my eyes! She was finally able to come back online but then the first aftershock hit and again, I was left there staring at a blank screen and a horrified feeling of utter helplessness. I was finally able to reach her on her cell phone and she gave me a play by play of what was happening in her neighborhood. I told her that she had better get to high ground as a tsunami was a definite possibility. She told me how the people were running around in a panic state and ! talking about the tsunami and what to do. During all the panic, the horn from a ship was blaring and it was a total chaos. I told her to grab her kids and head for the mountains which were about 2km away from her home. Then I lost her cell phone signal. Through the night, which fortunately for them was midday, I was able to contact her a few times, each time I could sense the fear and panic in her voice as she made her way through the hundreds of people all heading for higher ground. Then I would lose the signal and wouldn't be able to contact her for awhile. It was definitely the most helpless feelings I have ever felt in my life. I was able to contact her again this morning, and it seems the tsunami warning has been lifted but the aftershocks are still coming every once in awhile. She was able to locate all of her family and they are all ok. They are spending the night sleeping outside a strip mall about half way between their house and the foot of the mountain road that! goes to Bacolod. When I talked to Desiree this morning she wa! s very c alm and actually sang me Happy Birthday along with her kids and some friends. Very touching!!!!
