Three deaths confirmed (see below for detail)

The earthquake of this magnitude is capable of causing severe damage, although the depth of this temblor lessened its impact. Parts of Mexico City rest on the shaky soil of a former lake bed, which tends to magnify the effect of earthquakes

Mexican President Felipe Calderon (@Felipe Calderon) tweeted three hours ago "Todos los servicios en el DF se reportan funcionando con normalidad. Información por corroborar señala dos personas fallecidas en Guerrero" (All services in the City are reported to function normally. Corroborate information indicates two people killed in Guerrero ; using google translate)

Officials told the people to keep calm, because this earthquake is at great depth, and denied the risk of high intensity aftershocks, nor the production of a Tsunami.

Four earthquakes are recorded in the different part of Mexican Republic after that.

The quake interrupted the annual silver festival in the tourist city of Taxco, midway between Acapulco and the capital.

Mexico City's mayor, Marcelo Ebrard, reported by Twitter that no major damage had been reported. He said power failed in some parts of the city.

Mexico's Interior Department said the quake was felt in parts of nine states. The most damage is in Iguala because the epicenter is very close. The earthquake video aside shows the shaking during the event.

Officials said at least three people died, but there were no reports of widespread damage. one man was killed when a house's roof collapsed in Iguala, a second died in the small town of Ixcateopan and the driver of a cargo truck was killed by rocks that fell on the vehicle driving on the toll highway linking Acapulco with Mexico City.

EMSC Felt Reports
Cuernavaca: Only that after 30 years living in this area this is the strongest I have experienced due to the fact that we are up on the foothills of the mountains and usually we have very little  movement, except of course the great quake of 1985.
Acapulco: by far the longest and strongest i've felt in acapulco
Coyacán : hear a strong wind before the earthquake,
Mexico City: Probably the second strongest quake i've felt in this area, since 1985.

According to USGS, 952000 people will have experienced strong shaking of MMI VI today by this Mexican Quake. People of Cocula, Tepecoacuilco de Trujano, Iguala de la Independencia, Apaxtla de Castrejon, Teloloapan, Tlacotepec will have experienced strong shaking. Among these Iguala de la Independencia is the most populated region with population 112,000.
NOAA mentions, Based on the earthquake magnitude, location and historic tsunami records, a damaging tsunami IS NOT expected along the California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska coasts

13 km SE Apaxtla (pop 7,413 ; local time 19:47:26.4 2011-12-10)


UPDATE

It is felt over vast area far than 100+ radius from epicenter. The data report varies among seismological reporting sites. Chilpancingo Airport of Mexico lies 30 far from epicenter where strong jolt is felt.It will be hurry to say the preliminary data as flashed by USGS will not be updated.
At this time a day, more people are at home and therefore more vulnerable to collapsing residential buildings.


Guerrero Earthquake
M 6.7 earthquake stuck today in Guerrero, Mexico Region @ 64 km depth (local time Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 07:47 PM @ epicenter). The intensity is strong enough to cause heavy damage to life and property. The earthquake epicenter is 62km from the city of Chilpancingo. The nearest populated places are Acatln (19km), Balsas (6km), Cuetzala (10km), Apaxtla (16km). It is a mountainous region with a maximum altitude of 3443 m. Following USGS preliminary data, the epicenter location of this earthquake is
    35 km (22 miles) S (170 degrees) of Teloloapan, Guerrero, Mexico
    43 km (26 miles) NNW (339 degrees) of Chichihualco, Guerrero, Mexico
    45 km (28 miles) SW (219 degrees) of Iguala, Guerrero, Mexico
    133 km (82 miles) N (6 degrees) of Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico

In 1985, an 8.1-magnitude quake killed as many as 10,000 people in the city.
