Recent Earthquakes

•  Magnitude 5.8 Very Strong Earthquake in Papua, Indonesia (Irian Jaya)with epicenter located 86 km (53 miles) N of Tanahmerah, Papua, Indonesia. Far (304 km) from the populated area of Jaya pura, Indonesia (pop 134,895). Max. felt Intensity will be IV in the Kiunga region, Indonesia.
  UPDATE: NO ANY NEWS FROM THE EPICENTER AREA. As the population living there are in small number, we don't expect more news.
• Magnitude 5.5 earthquake in Sulawesi, Indonesia with epicenter located 148 km (91 miles) WSW of Gorontalo, Sulawesi, Indonesia. Max. felt intensity III which indicates weak shaking.
  UPDATE 11:10 UTC: USGS mentions M 5.5. EMSC now updated its data to M 5.5 similar to USGS.
  UPDATE 10:58 UTC: EMSC mentions 6.3, USGS hasn't mentioned yet!!

• Magnitude 5.1 moderate earthquake in Salta, Argentina with epicenter located 119 km E of Jujuy, Argentina and 154 ENE of Salta, Argentina. Faintly felt by the people of Jujuy, Argentina.

• Magnitude 4.8 earthquake (@ 129 km depth) in Andaman Islands, India region.Surrounded by water.

• Magnitude 5.9 moderate earthquake (@ 165.1 km depth) in Indonesia with epicenter located 281 km E Dili, East Timor (pop 159,721). Very deep earthquake with epicenter in Sea water which is very far from the residential area.
  NO TSUNAMI ALERT

• Magnitude 4.7 moderate earthquake (@ 22.6 km depth) in Chile with epicenter located  43 km (26 miles) NNW of Valparaiso, Chile. Well felt in Valparaiso Chile. It is the another moderate quake after M 5.3 some days earlier.

• Magnitude 4.2 moderate earthquake (@ 10 km depth) in Sicily, Italy with epicenter located just 10 km NW Capo d'orlando (pop 12,997) and 75 km far from the populated area of Messina, Italy (pop 246,416). The earthquake is well felt by the people living above epicenter area. It lasted about 5-6 seconds.
  UPDATE 11/15/2011(10:43 UTC): Still earthquakes are recorded in this area with minor intensities (less than 3)

• Sean-11 with active storm having current maximum sustained wind speed 17 m/s. Green Alert for Bermuda.
  Disaster Note: Tropical storm Sean 11 has affected 66 thousand people with winds above 39mph.In addition, few people are living in coastal areas below 5m and can therefore be affected by storm surge.

Recent Volcanoes   

• Volcanic Eruption On Hierro Canary Islands located in Spain. During 2-8 November, 364 seismic events were recorded at depths of 16-23 km. During 4-5 November authorities evacuated about 80 residents from areas in Frontera due to landslide risks. Hierro contains the greatest concentration of young vents in the Canary Islands.
  Today many earthquakes were recorded in the Canary Islands, Spain. But all were of minor intensities. Mostly less than magnitude 3.

• Volcanic Eruption On Nyamuragira Democratic Republic of Congo. It is the Africa's most active volcano. Eruption still continues here in Nyamuragira. Lava fountains have reached a height of 400 m and a new cone has been formed. A large sulphur dioxide plume extending west of the eruption site is shown by the satellite image.
